'The Hoff' gets crabby namesake
Celebrity icon David Hasselhoff has once again transcended the world of entertainment -- or least his chest hair has -- after British marine scientists named a newly-discovered hairy crab species "The Hoff" in honor of the Baywatch star's legendary man fur.
The new sub-species of yeti crab, which has long hairs, or setae, along their claws and limbs, was discovered in the Atlantic clustered in large groups of thousands around volcanic vents off the coast of Georgia, the BBC reported.
The crabs are still awaiting classification under a more scientific name, but Hasselhoff seemed pleased about the announcement of his marine namesake on his Twitter account @DavidHasselhoff, retweeting the news to his 350,000 followers.
The 59-year-old Hasselhoff has been spending his recent days starring as Captain Hook in a production of "Peter Pan" in Bristol, England, after he was dropped as a judge from the show "Britain's Got Talent."
